Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Paralelo for using the Paralelo website, reader app and demo. By creating an account or using the service you accept them.

The service

Paralelo lets you read texts side by side in two languages, look up words, save them and review them with spaced repetition. Some features, like writing stories with AI, are available only when we have turned them on. The account-free demo lets you try the reader without signing up; nothing you do there is saved.

Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• Give accurate information and keep your password and sign-in methods secure. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
• One account per person. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.

Plans

Paralelo is free to use. We plan to offer a paid plan, Paralelo Plus, with higher limits; its price has not been announced and we don't take payments today. If we start charging, we will publish the price and terms before you can buy, and nothing you use for free today will be charged without your agreement.

Acceptable use

Don't misuse Paralelo. In particular, don't:

• break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
• try to access other people's accounts or data, probe or overload our systems, or get around limits and security;
• scrape the service or use automated means to copy texts at scale;
• use story generation to create content that is illegal, hateful, sexual involving minors, or meant to harass anyone.

Texts and content

Our library. The library contains stories written by Paralelo and adaptations or new translations of public-domain works. The original public-domain works are free for everyone; our own stories, translations, adaptations, word alignments and annotations belong to Paralelo, and you may use them for your personal learning.

Stories written for you. Stories you generate are saved to your account and visible only to you. You may use them for your personal, non-commercial learning. Because similar themes can produce similar stories, we can't promise a story is unique.

What you type. You keep the rights to the themes you type. You allow us to process them only to provide the service, for example by sending a theme to our AI provider to write your story.

AI features

Word definitions beyond our built-in dictionary and generated stories are written by AI. They can contain mistakes, including in grammar or translation, and are marked as AI-generated. Don't rely on them for anything important. AI features have usage limits; your remaining stories for the day are shown in the app.

Availability and changes

We work to keep Paralelo running, but we can't promise it will always be available or error-free. We may add, change or remove features. If we remove a feature you rely on, or close the service, we will tell you in advance where we reasonably can and let you download your data.

Ending your use

You can stop using Paralelo and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms; where reasonable we will tell you why and give you a chance to download your data first.

Disclaimers and liability

Paralelo is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim implied warranties and are not liable for indirect or consequential losses. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can't be limited by contract. [Legal review: set the liability cap and consumer-law carve-outs for each market.]

Governing law

[Legal review: choose the governing law and courts, keeping consumers' rights to use the courts and laws of their own country where applicable.]

Changes to these terms

When we change these terms materially we will publish a new version with a new number and date and tell signed-in users before it takes effect. If you don't agree, you can delete your account before then.
